The importance of a catch can on a Diesel engine is so evident in the before and after photo of the intake manifold of a 1KDftv Toyota turbo diesel. These engines are in everything, Prado, Hilux, Hiace etc... the carbon builds up as the oil vapour in the intake reacts with the carbon monoxide in the EGR gasses (which mix) and carbon deposits are the result. The catch can filters the oil vapour so when it mixes with the EGR gasses the ’carbon reaction’ does not occur, keeping things clean - which means smooth operation, better idle and improved fuel economy. Most importantly your Co2 emissions will be reduced!!!!
